So you think you can't sing....... .........think again!
Have you been to one of our concerts recently? If so, and as you listened you thought to yourself, "I'd love to do that" but then immediately reminded yourself that when in the bath you sound like....well...not just the cat....... but what the cat dragged in as well!
Can we say this could not be further from the truth? We were all born with the gift of song it's just that as a society our joy at doing so has been knocked out of us. Singing is no longer taught in schools - in some schools even there's no singing at all! Universities are now closing their music departments. Humming to yourself on the bus is frowned upon and even a happy whistle as you cheerfully make your way down the street is sometimes interpreted as having sinister connotations.
So now, we have good news for you. Many of our members felt the same way you do but after a bit of persuasion came along to one of our practice nights. loved what they heard, realised that they could add to it and now it is they who are leading the way when it comes to a tricky arpeggio or two!
We are a registered charity and to ensure we stay that way we are determined to offer anyone the opportunity to sing with us. To help you decide let’s make it easy for you
We welcome all abilities and we sing the most fantastic music. We have a charismatic and inspirational music director whose rehearsal and practice techniques, including bespoke GCS You Tube videos and whose practice at home tools are quite brilliant and user friendly. Put simply – they’re so good it’s not a problem if you can’t read music. Through these you will soon pick it up.
We have an accompanist who is second to none with a wicked sense of humour. We’re also a really friendly group.
We give concerts in November, at Christmas and in May. See our page which brings together posters from our concerts given in recent years. This will give you a flavour of the range of what we do.
Practice night is Tuesday at 7.30pm and we are based at Grantham Prep School Yearly subscription is £120 paid in two or three instalments and music is available for hire through The Society.
Come and give us a try, we would love to see you, and we will make you very welcome. That’s a promise.
